Bianchi wins Foil title

Last weekend, the National Fencing Association - Malta (NFAM) held = the 13th=20 edition of the National Championships that comprised five individual = events in=20 all three disciplines, Foil, Epee and Sabre.

The men's Foil, which has proved the most popular event over the = years, was=20 won by Pierre Bianchi. He defeated Andre Zahra 15-10 in a well-contested = final.=20 Bianchi also took gold at the Sabre event.

In men's Epee, Kurt Mifsud placed first after winning the final 15-12 = against=20 a defiant Zahra. For Mifsud, this was his first national title after = clinching a=20 gold medal in Foil at the SPFC Malta Open 2009.

The women's titles in both Foil and Epee were won by the emerging = Caroline=20 Farrugia. On both occ-asions, she beat Danika Formosa in the final.

The championships were supervised by NFAM technical director Nicky = Bianchi=20 with Alex Micallef assisting with computer scoring. The Spanish = Ambassador to=20 Malta, HE Isabella Vicandi, presented the prizes to the = participants.
